The 2021 Archive

Alas, so much was lost in the shocking yet routine purge of ESPN Fantasy message boards. Like me at going back for my third plate at an all-you-can-eat buffet, it was just too much. But good things come from bad, and now we have this league blog!

Not much was salvaged from the fire (read: I didn't save Word docs of the previous recaps that I made), but I have added the recaps from the screencaps that I did save of a few week's worth of stories. Maybe we all learn from my mistakes and back up all of our work.

Week 1 Recap - September 14, 2021

Howdy, folks!

Well, the first week of the season wrapped up faster than your dashboard will melt in Arizona heat, and boy was it hot out on some of those fields too. Did you know that New Orleans actually opted to play in Jacksonville? I mean there was a hurricane and everything, but still, that was a choice they made.

Biscuits with the Boss took victory over Team Chlysta in a battle we can only assume made the household a little, uh, tense. It was close there for a lot of the weekend, but the Adam Thielen play in BWTB's flex position ended up being pretty clutch. The standout for TC was definitely Amari Cooper, who threw down a whopping 38.9 points and was looking at more targets than a white suburban shopping area. Nice play to you both!

Rubber City Roughnecks came out on top over AdamBlowsGoats -HaveProof led by Kyler Murray and his 4TDs. ABG-HP certainly suffers from what seems like an almost vindictively bad first game from last year's MVP Aaron Rodgers, but picked up some solid points from Miles Sanders in the flex position. You'll get 'em next week!

Zip Zop Zooey came out of the gate with a win over PasswordIsTACO in the week 1 newbie battle, cashing in on Christian McCaffrey's 27.7 points. A solid showing for both teams, and we're proud as a league of both of them for remembering to set their line ups. Way to go!

East Side Believers beat No Punt Intended as Patrick Mahomes kept his undefeated September streak alive with 4 TDs. NPI had a standout with Tyreek Hill, who brough the Kansas City barbecue sauce with 37.1 points. We are aware of ESB's potential hometown betrayal for leaning so heavily on Mahomes as he played a heartbreaker of a game against the Browns, and have taken it under advisement.

Well, there it is, your week 1 recap. To the victors, congratulations! To everyone else, it's time to be like a goldfish, because week 2 starts now.

Hugs and kisses,

Your Commish

Week 2 Recap - September 21, 2021

Good morning, y'all!

Well, we've made it through week two, and there have been more ups and downs than a rollercoaster at Cedar Point. We even had some stuff that feels like one of those loop-de-loops, you know, where suddenly you're upside down and all the coins you forgot were in your pockets are falling 50 feet to the ground? Some folks got some serious chunks of change dropped on them, is what I'm saying.

Rubber City Roughnecks went out and summoned the ghost of John Madden this week, tallying up a whopping 189 total points in their match up against PasswordIsTACO. They saw good performances across the board, led by Kyler Murray and what the kids might call a ridonk performance by Cooper Kupp with 163 yards, 2 TDs, and a total of 36.9 points. Heck, even the Buffalo defense dropped 19 points during their shut out against Miami. Taco found their footing with Davante Adams, but there just wasn't much they could do against RCR's witchcraft. Great matchup!

No Punt Intended took the game against Team Chlysta after Lamar Jackson put up some serious points after a rocky start in the matchup against Kansas City. Some great players on both sides didn't go the direction I think either would have wanted them to, but sometimes that's just the way the biscuit crumbles. TC's stand out this week was Austin Ekeler, because who doesn't love to see a two point conversion on their stat sheet. Well done to you both!

East Side Believers eked out a victor against Biscuits with the Boss in what we'll be call the Lasso matchup of the week, as T.J. Hockenson's Monday night performance saved ESB's bacon. This was another game where some A+ players put up some below average performances, but that means the only direction to go next week is up. BWTB saw some good action from Travis Kelce this week with 109 yards and a TD. Nice work!

Now, there are some days you wake up on Tuesday morning to check the Monday night scores and your eyes pop out of your head a little bit, and that's how it was with AdamBlowsGoats -Have Proof's game against Zip Zop Zooey this week. The two were neck and neck until the Green Bay Packers went and remembered that they were a damn good football team and rocketed ABG-HP to victory. Get a load of some of these stats: Aaron Rodgers threw for 255 yards and two TDs, and Aaron Jones 67 for 4 total TDs. That's not even to mention the Titan's Derrick Henry dropping a cool 47.7 points against Seattle. ABG-HP might as well be a 1990 hit single by EMF, because that was unbelievable. ZZZ put up a good fight with a solid performance by Calvin Ridley, but sometimes the Monday night magic gets the better of you. Good job on both sides!

That just about does it for week two, grab some Gatorade and orange slices, because it's time for week three. See you out there on the field!

Hugs and kisses,

Your Commish

Week 3 Recap - September 28, 2021

Top o' the morning, folks!

Seems like we made it through another week of the National Football League, and boy was it a doozy! But before we get into our regularly scheduled recap, the folks over here at Barbecue Sauce HQ need to make a quick correction and apology. We went ahead and made and assumption, and that assumption turned out the way they sometimes do in the "ass of 'u' and 'me'" sort of way. It has come to our attention that, ah, Mr. John Madden is still alive and therefore could not be a ghost to be summoned. That's our bad, everyone, we wish Mr. Madden the best. Now on to the matchups!

No Punt Intended came out on top of Biscuits With The Boss this week, with a stand out performance from Justin Jefferson and other solid performances from Saquon Barkley and Lamar Jackson. BWTB put up some good points with Adam Thielen and Travis Kelce, but just couldn't get past the Running Back Blues this time around. Just saying, Running Back Blues would be a good title for a single off the Barbecue Sauce album. Good job to you both!

Rubber City Roughnecks is a force to be reckoned with as they took this week over Zip Zop Zooey. RCR saw another great week from Cooper Kupp, making this a boom week hattrick. ZZZ had an early heartbreaker with Christian McCaffrey leaving the game in the second quarter on Thursday night's match up, but came back strong as Josh Allen woke up and decided to have the best game of his dang life with 358 yards and 5 TDs. Unfortunately this wasn't quite enough to break RCR's win streak, and they go 3-0. Well done!

East Side Believers took home the bacon this week against Team Chlysta in a neck-and-neck match up decided on the Monday night field. Both sides put up some darn good numbers, with ESB's DK Metcalf and TC's Austin Ekeler both throwing 22.7 points on the board for Sunday afternoon. It all came down to Amari Cooper on Monday night, but unfortunately for TC he came up a little short. Tough matchup, well done!

This week's household match was between AdamBlowsGoats -HaveProof and PasswordIsTACO, and boy, you could cut the tension with a spoon. TACO came out on top with a barn burner of a week, both Justin Herbert and Davante Adams throwing over 30 points on the board. ABG-HP put up a valiant fight with over 100 rushing yards from Derrick Henry, but TACO brought the hot sauce and took home the W. Way to go!

That just about does it for week three! Huge congratulations to our winners this week! Everyone else, it's time to do as Miss Taylor Swift says and shake it off, because it's time for week four.

Hugs & Kisses,

Your Commish

Weeks 5 & 6 Recap

Hey, everybody! Long time, no see! Boy I tell you what, sometimes the time just gets away from you, and that's what's certainly happened over the past couple of weeks. We have gotten through two full weeks of fantasy football, and where has your stalwart commish been? I wish I could say that it's because I was out there just having too much fun and time was just flying, but the reality of the situation was... I was caught up doing normal adult life stuff and I forgot. I do apologize to y'all. So instead of our normal recap of the match ups, let's go through what all you fine team managers have been up to over the past couple of weeks! AdamBlowsGoats-HaveProof had both the thrill of victory and the agony of players on bye week over the past couple of weeks. Derrick Henry was the star of week 5 for ABG-HP and the W they brought home that week, rushing for over 100 yards with a couple of receptions for icing on the cake. Week 6 was a bit of a scramble between the bye

2023 Pre-Season Message

Hey there, everyone!  Do you believe in a thing called fantasy football? Because I sure can't believe that it's time for the 2023 season already! Now, I just wanted to take a moment to acknowledge that we are now on our third straight year of playing in this league together, and I cannot believe that I have been privileged enough to serve as your commish for all this time. From tolerating the lightning-speed drafts to you folks actually reading all my silly recaps, I am just humbled that y'all keep showing up year after year.  So before we all start getting a little competitive and potentially letting the NFL ruin every Sunday we have for the rest of the year, I just wanted to take a moment to say I appreciate y'all. I love this league like Netflix loves making live action anime remakes that no one wants. I guess it's just a passion. See you on the field! Hugs & Kisses, Your Commish
